On Thursday, May 19, 2011, the McDowell Hospital Auxiliary proudly hosted the North Carolina Hospital Volunteers District 1 Meeting. This annual event was attended by eleven hospitals in western North Carolina, with over 75 members present.
Dr. Bob Morrow, a General Surgeon at McDowell Hospital, spoke on the cancer services available in McDowell County and the importance of prevention and early detection. Attendees were also able to view a presentation on Mission Health System’s new Cancer Center, learn about McDowell Cancer Care Partners and hear more about how our community is rallying together in the fight against cancer. The District 1 Meeting was presided over by Sue Price, District 1 Representative.
“The presentation and information was really informative and well presented,” said Wanda Plemmons, Volunteer Specialist at McDowell Hospital. “Thank you to our speakers for sharing this valuable information and to our health care specialists for their support of cancer patients and survivors.”
McDowell Hospital Auxiliary would like to extend a special thank you to all of the attendees of the District 1 Meeting and to the Cross Memorial Baptist Church for use of their facility.
