McDowell Hospital Hosts 2nd Annual Free Sports Physicals

As anyone who plays sports will tell you, annual physicals are required before beginning practices. On Tuesday, May 24, 2011, McDowell Hospital hosted their second, annual Free Sports Physicals Event for all 7th-12th grade athletes who attend East Junior High, West Junior High and McDowell High School. Held at the McDowell High School gym, 421 teenage athletes were given free sports physicals in preparation for sports during the 2011-2012 school year.

Offering these free physicals to our student athletes in the county is a huge benefit to our community” stated Trent Hayes, Certified Athletic Trainer through McDowell Hospital. He confirmed how invaluable these physicals are, since “some of these kids would not be able to afford these screenings otherwise.
“We are so grateful to have providers in and surrounding McDowell County that are willing to donate their time for this event. We also have a lot of clinical and non-clinical support from McDowell Hospital, McDowell County Schools, and volunteers in the community. This event would not be possible without everyone that is involved."
This sports physical is offered annually in the spring.
