If you need a primary physician or healthcare services…our doors are open. We’re available seven days a week—providing quality medical care for people of all ages—and we’re conveniently located in your community.
Health Plus—McDowell Hospital’s rural health clinic—has served the community with complete healthcare services for over 19 years. As a primary care provider, we’re here for all your needs, whether that’s a routine examination, immunizations, preventive care or help managing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Walk-in services are available 7 days a week for minor illnesses or injuries. Appointments for physicals and chronic disease management are available by calling Health Plus at 828-652-1400.
If you have an emergency, call 911
Health Plus is not an emergency care provider. If you have a serious injury, or an emergency such as chest pain or difficulty breathing, immediately call 911 or have someone take you to the nearest hospital emergency room.
Our Patients
We see patients of all ages, beginning at 3 months and continuing throughout your life span. We look forward to taking care of everyone in your family. If you don’t have a physician, you may make us your Primary Care Provider and consider Health Plus your medical home.
Our Services
Health Plus ensures that your healthcare needs are met using a team-based approach. In addition to providing medical care to restore and maintain health, we’re dedicated to teaching you how to participate in your own healthcare. We work closely with specialists in the region so that we’re ready to make a referral when necessary. In addition, the comprehensive services of McDowell Hospital are right next door.
Primary Care Services
Health Plus offers all the same services you’d expect to obtain from your primary physician, including:
- Routine physicals, health screenings and wellness care
- Management of ongoing health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol
- Preventive care
- Flu clinic and shots during flu season
- Immunizations
- Women’s care
- Nutrition and exercise counseling
- Smoking cessation
Same Day Care
We provide walk-in, same-day service for anyone in the community who may need medical attention for non-life-threatening health issues such as:
- Illnesses such as cough, colds, flu and sore throat
- Allergies
- Minor injuries such as cuts, burns and strains
- Insect bites
On-Site Lab Tests
Health Plus is certified to perform routine lab tests, including pregnancy tests, strep tests, flu, and simple blood and urine analysis. Where appropriate, we are supported by the laboratory services of McDowell Hospital, conveniently located next door.

Health Plus is a walk-in only clinic.
Health Plus accepts most commercial insurance including Medicare and Medicaid.
